Week 8

This week the baby is about 1/2 inch long!
It's the size of a large Raspberry they say!
-Its eyelids have formed.
-Webbed Fingers and toes are starting to grow
-The tail (which is part of the spinal cord) is almost gone.
-Its Heart is beating about twice as fast as mine at about 150 Beats per Minute!

I can't wait to see it on the ultrasound on Tuesday!
I'll definitely be posting afterwards! Hopefully we'll be able to see something in there!

2 days ago I got to do an ultrasound on a dog that was also 8 weeks pregnant at work and you could see the puppies moving around and you could also see the heart fluttering! It's funny because an 8 week old puppy fetus is sooo much bigger than an 8 week old human fetus! (Its probably about the length of my middle finger.) Humans and puppies look pretty similar as embryos though!

The Patron Saint of Motherhood

My friend is so thoughtful and sent me these prayers that she prayed all throughout her pregnancies!

Prayer for a Safe Delivery
"...Preserve me from danger and from the excessive pains accompanying childbirth, and shield the child which I now carry, that it may see the light of day and receive the purifying and life-giving waters of baptism through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen."

Week 7

This week the baby is about the size of a Blueberry!
Its face is somewhat taking shape and it's growing arms and legs!

The nausea has set in... I haven't thrown up yet, but ever since last saturday I have been nauseous off and on.
Smells are starting to get to me. Especially at work where I'm constantly cleaning up poop or vomit or pee... eww! It's alright tho! So far I have been able to suck it up and hold my breath.

I've been pretty tired and sometimes a little grouchy, but once I eat i'm in a better mood.
Good thing I have an awesome chef for a husband!

Still having weird dreams.

And that's about it for now! 8 days until our next ultrasound!!

Week 6

The baby is officially an embryo this week!

It's heart is beating <3
It's beginning to develop more distinct features,
and its about the size of a pumpkin seed!
I cant wait to see it on the ultrasound in March!!

Had some more weird dreams this week...
  • In one dream I was listening to the baby's heart beat and it started coming out so I tried to push it back in but it wouldn't stay... when it came out it was completely clean and I was holding it very awkwardly trying to find a doctor.

  • In another one a huge catfish abducted a lady and then 10 years later she was found but nobody believed her. Lol!

I don't know how my imagination comes up with some of this stuff!

I got a little nauseous yesterday for the first time... and of course it was at an orientation at our new gym... so I was trying to scope out the nearest trash can but I never threw up. That was lucky lol!

Anyway thats about it!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!

Week 5

Every Sunday marks a week!
I think I have a food baby here. lol!

Its so funny because Garrett started drinking these protein shakes and for a couple days they made him nauseous... I think he really just had sympathy morning sickness lol!

I've decided that it's a bad idea for a hungry pregnant person to go food shopping. I think our kitchen is stocked for a good couple months.

-Dreams-

  • I'm still having CRAZY dreams but thats pretty normal for me... Last night I dreamt that my friend Xep and I did some kind of race on the beach and then went back to her tree house so she could give me a baby book. But it was a very strange feeling dream.

  • The day before that, I dreamt about fixing my crab trap so I could go crabbing and then (in real life) I woke up and Memphis got into the garage and had chewed it up.

  • One night I dreamt that the baby was in my parents pool in AZ in a little floaty tube and I couldn't tell if it was a boy or a girl.

Craving this week: Chocolate Milk

Week 4

Starting weight: 142 lbs

That is not a baby bump lol... That just means I could probably be doing more crunches!

On Wednesday, Feb. 2 we had our first doctor's appt!
I'm seeing a midwife named Joanne Kort. It's really neat because her and her husband run this clinic called Renew Clinic and Spa and he is a doctor (and would be my doctor incase i need a C-section) and she is a certified Midwife with a master's degree in nursing.

I was asked a lot of questions about personal and family medical history. My blood pressure and heart rate were normal.
I Weighed in at 142.
(Joanne said I should gain about 20-30lbs)

We got to look on an ultrasound but all you could see was my uterus.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jessica is doing a research project on the development of prenatal care over 3 generations so I'll be jotting down notes for her here:

Notes:

  • My midwife recommended taking Omega-3 Fish Oil supplements because it contains DHA which helps develop the baby's brain and nervous system. She said there are studies that show it might even increase the baby's IQ lol! So hey what the heck!
    • She said I should stop taking it a couple weeks before my due date because it may cause me     to bleed more... I dont know if that means it affects clotting or if it thins the blood.. idk.
  • One cup of coffee is ok a day but I'm supposed to stay away from Caffeine.
  • She recommended doing at least 30 kegel exercises everyday haha!
  • Gain about 20-30lbs.
  • Don't Garden or change cat litter because of Toxoplasmosis... but I think I am probably already immune to it since I've been exposed to so many cats in my life.
  • Don't eat fish containing high amounts of mercury.
  • No X-Rays.
  • I can't help around the anesthesia at work. (We use Isoflurane gas which is potentially really bad for the fetus)

Peeing on a Stick

So here's how it happened-

Last friday, (Jan. 28 2011) I was talking to my friend about how I've been having these cramps since about the beginning of December. I thought maybe I had an ovarian cyst or something.
She's like, "Well, are you pregnant."
Me- "No, there's no way I am... cuz I've had my period since then."
She gave me her gyno's number and I called and made an appt for Feb. 10.
---
That night, I'm home and Garrett gets back from the store and tells me he got me a surprise- He said to close my eyes and he put something in my hand. I look down and its a bottle of prenatal pills.
I'm like, "haha, you're funny."
He said, "Well they're good for you anyway so you should take them!"
Mike and Rachel were over and we all started joking about how its a competition between the Jordan's and the Scriv's for who has the next baby since we're the only couples (in CG housing) with out one.
---
That night I had a dream that me and Rachel went to Fred Meyer's and bought pregnancy tests... so when I woke up I started thinking about how I should just take one anyway since I'm going to see the doctor next week. Because if I wasn't pregnant then there was definitely something going on in there that needed explaining.

So I got home and peed on the stick and honestly I was completely shocked to see the +. I did not expect that whatsoever lol! I wasn't even supposed to start my period till the next day (Jan 30).

Anyway- this still doesnt explain the cramps since December, but the midwife didn't seem too concerned about them. If it gets any worse maybe I'll get a second opinion... But for now I'm just hoping for smooth sailing!!

I know I'm a nerd lol! I took this picture of myself. And, yes, I am sitting on the toilet.
